Woke up early and borrowed a zipcar to check out the granite selection at 3 stone warehouses over the bridge to NJ:
Here you can see the first of the Ikea (“Adel”) cabinets being installed. The previous cabinets loosened themselves from the wall and slid toward the counter, so the step of first securing the furring strips to the beams is crucial.
Apparently over-range microwave hoods and dishwashers each require dedicated circuits. In these shots, conduit is being buried in the walls on its way to those new supplies.
Ever since I had the chance to help out in a commercial kitchen, I’ve wanted my own commercial-style faucet. Once you’ve done dishes with the suspended sprayer, super-hot water, and excellent water pressure, nothing compares. Too late in the kitchen design process, I realized that those faucets require more vertical space than the typical 18” between counter and cabinet. Instead, they needed upwards of 25-30”.

This Old House’s spotlight falls yet again on my old neighborhood. I’m excited to see how it will turn out, but I miss the over-the-top, pre-recession-style projects like the Cambridge House and Carlisle Project.
